Agarose MP is a high strength, multipurpose agarose that was developed for:

• rapid separation of high molecular weight DNA in pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE)
• high resolution analytical electrophoresis of nucleic acids
• preparative electrophoresis and quantitative recovery of biologically active DNA  

Characteristics:
  Electroendosmosis (- m_r):  ≤0.12
  Sulfur (as sulfate):  ≤0.12%
  Gel strength (1% agarose):  ≥1800 g/cm²
  Gel strength (1.5% agarose):  ≥3200 g/cm²
  Gelling temp (1.5% agarose): 36°C ( ±1.5°C)
  Melting temp (1.5% agarose): 88°C ( ±1.5°C)

Agarose MP can produce high strength gels (e.g., the gel strength of a 1% agarose MP gel  is ≥1800 g/cm² ). Even gels that have low concentrations of agarose MP are strong enough to be used for electrophoresis. The agarose matrix of such low concentration gels allows high molecular weight molecules to migrate rapidly without significant restriction.

Agarose MP is particularly well suited for pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, because it allows short separation times for large DNA molecules, while maintaining the high resolution required for effective analysis.
